UWI STAT Co-Leads UN Watch Party focusing on Renewable Energy

For UWI STAT to Co-Lead a special UN Watch Party along with the United Nations Jamaica for the UN Secretary General’s address on a “Moment of Opportunity: Supercharging the Clean Energy Age” today was a full circle moment.
This is because when I founded the regional Corps 20 years ago, I envisioned this group of young people being recognised as co-creators and change-makers in sustainability. The UN Secretary-General highlighted that the world has to focus on renewable energy. The charge to young people coming out of the Watch Party was that young people must be bold in imagining and building a future where our Caribbean islands, our communities, and our people thrive. They must
Seize the chance to transform the world into one powered by renewable energy, where nature is restored, where climate justice is real, and where we protect the most vulnerable. They were urged to use advocacy, creativity, pressure, and a refusal to settle for inaction, especially being in the Caribbean, on the frontlines of the climate crisis. They were encouraged to amplify your voices, connect across borders, and hold your leaders to account. I believe that they were
fuelled by courage, by hope, and by solidarity and will be striving to lead the Caribbean Region towards renewable energy.
