At The UWI, the impact of its students and alumni continues to resonate across international platforms. Two * individuals, Shakeem Howell and Teion Sealey, demonstrate how UWI fosters leadership, advocacy, and global relevance, reflecting its commitment to cultivating talent that transcends borders.


Howell: Championing Caribbean Youth Leadership


Shakeem Howell, an undergraduate student at UWI Cave Hill, has emerged as a prominent figure in youth leadership and advocacy. As President of the UWI STAT Vice Chancellor’s Ambassadors Corps (Cave Hill), Howell has been a steadfast advocate for Caribbean youth, contributing significantly to regional governance and climate resilience efforts. His role on the National Youth Policy Coordinating Committee and the Social Justice Committee of the Government of Barbados highlights his dedication to youth-centric development.

Shakeem’s participation in global forums like the United Nations Activate Talks, coupled with his mentoring of emerging leaders, underscores his commitment to sustainable development and social equity. His leadership, dedication, and engagement continue to be documented across platforms such as LinkedIn, where he inspires others to take charge of their own advocacy journeys.

Sealey: Advancing Family Development on a Global Stage

Meanwhile, across the globe in Qatar, UWI alumnus Teion Sealey, BSc (Hons) is advancing discussions on family and social development. In his career as a Marketing and Communications professional, Teion’s background in Sociology and Law (UWI CHC) has equipped him with a unique lens to approach complex societal challenges. His participation in major international forums, including the IYF+30 Conference and Youth Summit, demonstrates his commitment to addressing issues that affect families on a global scale.

Through his academic and professional journey, Teion’s contributions underscore the role that Caribbean education plays in tackling global challenges. Recognized as a Top social media Voice on LinkedIn, Teion continues to share insights into his work on policy development and strengthening family structures—showcasing the value of combining academic excellence with practical impact.
