Tribute - Business Titan Dr. The Hon Marshall McGowan Hall, OJ

Dr. Marshall Hall OJ – A prominent businessman, nation builder and family man, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at The UWI, Mona, and Head of the Department of Management Studies, a precursor to the Mona School of Business.


Hall was mainly associated with the Jamaica Producers Group Limited where he served as director for four decades and group managing director for 27 years. Hall was lauded by the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), in whose Hall of Fame he was inducted in 2004.The late titan was praised for serving his country with distinction in academia and business. He was lauded for the growth and innovation of Jamaica’s banana industry and was credited for spearheading the resuscitation of the sector in St Mary and other parishes after Jamaica was hammered by hurricanes Allen in 1980 and Gilbert eight years later. Hall was said to have advanced JP’s diversification into manufacturing, becoming the premier banana producer and exporter to the United Kingdom through a joint venture with the Government of Jamaica and Fyffes Plc. He was also chairman and CEO of the Jamaica Public Service Company, chairman of the Jamaica Development Bank (precursor to the Development Bank of Jamaica), and chairman of National Commercial Bank and Mutual Life. Hall was also chairman of the Caribbean Policy Research Institute, director of the Caribbean Maritime University, and member of the West Indian Commission, the Police Service Commission, and Police Civilian Oversight Authority.

COFFEE WITH CLASSMATES (CwC) , powered by Cafe Blue, at the Alumni House is a welcome addition to the alumni engagement activities held on the Mona Campus. Alumni, UWIAA executive members, UWI STAT Ambassadors and Faculty are invited to meet for a monthly coffee chat between 10:00 AM – 12noon for a delightful morning filled with casual conversations and camaraderie and a relaxed networking opportunity.  Café Blue, our sustainable supplier whose operations demonstrate their social responsibility in light of the global climate change challenge, provide their trademark Coffee and light refreshments. This event is proudly presented by Alumni Relations - IAD and the Campus Alumni Office of The UWI, Mona. Our next aim is to engage alumni in a monthly event between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. as well, for those who may attend at a later time of day - so look out for those details soon.
