"One UWI, One Alumni Family"
THE UWI’S FIRST TEACH-IN – 9th and 10th amongst 94 institutions!
The Regional Director for the One UWI Responsible Futures Programme (OURFP) 2025 Teach-In, Celia Davidson Francis, is delighted that The UWI performed well and extends kudos to all the UWI educators who made this possible. It was held during the month of March 2025 and marked the launch of The UWI's integration of sustainability and the UN SDG goals into the institution’s academic curriculum.
The OURFP Director noted: “The UWI will be participating every year, using it as a resource to keep these goals top of mind for both students and educators and to assist with briefing any new staff and students not yet fully aware of our institution's sustainability journey.”
All UWI educators (lecturers and those involved in programming and design) are expected to continue or to start integration until the next Teach-In in 2026 and the cycle will be repeated annually so that the focus is never lost.
Celia also said she was “thrilled to share that UWI was on the Leaderboard as some institutions have been participating for years and have never made the Leaderboard. Congratulations to all UWI educators and to the students who enthusiastically participated and were impacted by their efforts.
The UWI finished 10th overall on the Leaderboard amongst 94 institutions in terms of educators who registered for the Teach In and 9th on the Leaderboard in terms of number of students reached - which is excellent for our first try; and over 2,000 students were impacted with a total of 4,600 students to be impacted by the end of the summer period.
Pro-Vice Chancellors, Professor Canute Thompson (Board of Undergraduate Studies) and Professor Aldrie Henry-Lee (Graduate Studies and Research) worked with the Regional Director to advise their constituents and OURFP Advisory Board Member of the Global Campus, Dr. Emily Dick-Forde and her team including Hilary Drakes-Morris, as well as the regional UWI STAT Ambassadorial Corps assisted in galvanizing interest and motivating students and staff to actively participate.
The integration of Sustainability and the UN SDGs into the academic curriculum is happening!
