"One UWI, One Alumni Family"

The UWI RHQ: Back in Business

Over 50 events have been hosted at The University of the West Indies Regional Headquarters (The UWI RHQ) since the beginning of 2023. This represents a more than 70% increase in event activities at the venue and signals the facility’s return to full swing following an extended dormant period as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Located on UWI lands adjacent to the Mona Campus and spread across two expansive floors, The UWI RHQ provides a picture-perfect backdrop for events large, small, and anywhere in between. Five rooms comprise the conference and meeting facilities. These are the Eon Nigel Harris Council Room, The Ramson and Dr. Aleem Mohammed Meeting rooms, and the Winston Bayley and West Seminar rooms.

Excellent Service

Adaptable, flexible and unique, the facilities can be tailored to suit any event, ranging from stylish soirees to formal business meetings. Stephi-Ann Wray, Projects and Programmes Coordinator at United Way of Jamaica shared her recent experience at The UWI RHQ, “It was a pleasure working with The UWI team to host our Read Right from the Start (RRFTS) Sensitization Seminar at The UWI Regional Headquarters. The response to our queries was timely and the service provided for the event was excellent! The setup for the event space was perfect for our needs and the technical assistance provided during the execution was great!"

Servicing various types of events and supporting clientele spanning government, private sector, NGOs and individuals, The UWI RHQ strives to provide personalized experiences and support excellent event executions. Another client, Lloyd Smalling, Finance and Operations Coordinator at Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network highlighted the facility’s offerings sharing, "We hosted our Health and Wellness Symposium at The UWI Regional Headquarters, and we could not have been more with the venue. It was clean, well-maintained, and provided everything we needed to make our event a success. The UWI RHQ has clearly invested in its facilities, and it shows in the quality of the space."

The University Registrar, Dr. Maurice D. Smith, shared that he is pleased with the trajectory and expects that the RHQ will become one of the top- ranked event facilities in the Corporate Area, noting the successful staging of the Global Tourism Resilience Conference & Launch of Global Tourism Resilience Day and the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI) Budget Breakdown Public Forum. In light of the increase in activity, he indicated, “The UWI RHQ will offer a 15% discount on room rental fees to all clients with bookings for the months of July and August, 2023.”

The UWI officially opened its state-of-the-art Regional Headquarters (RHQ) Building in Kingston, Jamaica in 2012. It is home to the administrative, research institutes and specialised centres of the University in addition to The UWI Museum and Archives. Rental of facilities began in 2013. Since then, there has been a growing demand for the venue’s offerings.
