"One UWI, One Alumni Family"

Social Mediathon-

The UWI Open Campus Endowment Fund

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Open Campus Alumni Office, recently launched an Endowment Fund to provide scholarships to talented yet needy students from across the Caribbean as well as grants for developmental projects for the Open Campus. Mrs. Sandra Griffith-

Carrington, Open Campus Alumni Officer, pioneered this initiative as a result the many heart-wrenching stories and requests for assistance received daily and to allow these many deserving students to benefit from the Endowment Fund to complete their degrees.

The “Social Mediathon” is one of the many events that would be organised to raise US$1/2 million/BDS$1 million, for the Endowment Fund and is similar to a televised telethon, except that all the activities will be hosted online on social media platforms. Corporate and Government entities, staff, alumni, friends and family of the Open Campus are encouraged to give to the Endowment Fund via an online payment platform cognisant that no gift is too small.

The Social Mediathon will convene on Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, GCMG, KGN, KSt.J, MBBS, PhD (h.c.), Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda and Her Excellency the Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, FB, GCMG, DA, QC, LLD, President of Barbados. Artists from across the Caribbean will perform at this event and testimonials from students who have benefitted from the assistance of The University of the West Indies, Open Campus will be shared.

The earnings from the fund will be utilised under the guidance of a Governing Board of Advisors consisting primarily of Alumni and the Open Campus Administration. The fund will be professionally managed with transparency and periodic reporting to all stakeholders.
