Remembering Dr Janice Robinson Von Avery & Professor Winston Davidson 

Dr Janice Y. Robinson Von Avery who recently celebrated her 101st birthday, is a UWI MBBS graduate and pediatrician, who also taught Pediatrics at UWI/UHWI for many years before going into private practice. May the many contributions of her exemplary life be treasured as her soul Sleep In Peace (SIP). 


She was the sister of the late Professor Leslie Robinson, former UWI Mona Principal. 


Dr. Janice Robinson played a significant role in establishing the community of pediatrics in the very early life of the Department of Child Health. May her soul Rest in Peace.

Professor Winston Davidson, one of the most renowned public health experts in Jamaica, has passed. He was a telemedicine research pioneer and served as Professor of Public Health & Health Technology and Head of the University of Technology School of Public Health and Health Technology. He received the Commander of the Order of Distinction for Services to Medicine in 2003 and the "Pearl Award" for more than 30 years of distinguished and outstanding service to the People of Jamaica. He published over 120 presentations, papers, and publications related to Health Policy, Planning and Organizational issues; Primary Health Care; Drug Abuse Prevention, Epidemiology, Community Development, and Telemedicine, among others. 


He received his medical training from the University of the West Indies (UWI) during the period 1965 to 1971, and was successful in the American Examination for Foreign Medical Graduates in 1971.


He also received his Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H) from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, University of Liverpool, England in 1975.

COFFEE WITH CLASSMATES (CwC) , powered by Cafe Blue, at the Alumni House is a welcome addition to the alumni engagement activities held on the Mona Campus. Alumni, UWIAA executive members, UWI STAT Ambassadors and Faculty are invited to meet for a monthly coffee chat between 10:00 AM – 12noon for a delightful morning filled with casual conversations and camaraderie and a relaxed networking opportunity.  Café Blue, our sustainable supplier whose operations demonstrate their social responsibility in light of the global climate change challenge, provide their trademark Coffee and light refreshments. This event is proudly presented by Alumni Relations - IAD and the Campus Alumni Office of The UWI, Mona. Our next aim is to engage alumni in a monthly event between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. as well, for those who may attend at a later time of day - so look out for those details soon.
