Prepared by Celia Davidson Francis

We were heartsick when we belated learnt of the passing of our dear friend and fellow alumnus, Ulric Warner, and though the passage of time delayed our tribute, we now honour the memory of Ulric, who sadly departed from us on August 16, 2023. While the calendar may have shifted, the significance of his contributions remains steadfast, as we hold his legacy in the highest regard. The University of the West Indies (The UWI) bids a sorrowful farewell to one of its cherished alumni, Mr. Ulric Warner. His legacy remains deeply etched within the halls of academia and the corridors of corporate excellence. We will never forget his paramount love for and dedication to his alma mater, an authentic exemplar of alumni / alma mater affinity.

Ulric Warner's indelible mark on The UWI's history began as the inaugural President of UWIAATT, guiding the Association through a pivotal transition in 1989. His dedication to his Alma Mater was unwavering, evident through his service as the Alumnus Representative on bo*th the University Council and Senate. Always a beacon of guidance, Ulric generously shared his wisdom and supported the Association's endeavours, including sponsoring bursaries for aspiring students.

Beyond the confines of academia, Ulric excelled in Trinidad and Tobago's corporate landscape. As a distinguished human resource executive, his leadership illuminated the paths of countless professionals. From his pivotal roles as Vice President of Human Resources at Atlantic LNG to his chairmanship at National Quarries Company Limited, Ulric exemplified excellence in every endeavour.

With over 25 years of executive-level experience, Ulric's expertise spanned diverse industries, from oil and gas to manufacturing and financial services. His influence extended far beyond borders, shaping organizational cultures in Nigeria and Indonesia. Through his writings and presentations, he illuminated the nexus between productivity, culture, and effective leadership, leaving an indelible impact on countless organizations.

As a seasoned trainer and lecturer, Ulric shared his wealth of knowledge with aspiring professionals, both at home and across the Caribbean. His tenure at ALJGSB, where he imparted the nuances of human resources in entrepreneurial studies, stands as a testament to his commitment to nurturing future leaders.

Ulric's academic journey began with honours at UWI St Augustine in Industrial Management, culminating in an Executive Master's in Business Administration. His thirst for knowledge was matched only by his passion for fostering excellence in others.

In celebrating the life of Ulric Warner, let us remember his unwavering dedication to education, his profound impact on the corporate landscape, and his enduring legacy of leadership. Though he may have departed from our midst, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear friend, mentor, and visionary.
