"One UWI, One Alumni Family"

Chancellor Miller ceremoniously installed!

On Saturday, March 15, The UWI hosted the official installation ceremony for Dr. the Most Honourable Dodridge Miller, commemorating his transition into the prestigious role of the seventh Chancellor in the University's history. This regional and international gathering at the UWI Cave Hill Campus brought together prime ministers, governors-general from across the region, governmental representatives, university leaders, business executives, alumni, and members of civil society. The Chancellor's Installation Ceremony is a university tradition that signifies the transition of leadership within the institution. Highlighting the cultural significance of the event, the cricket-themed ceremony, chosen by Chancellor Miller, will reflect his passion for the sport and the rich regional identity of the university—an exceptional blend of tradition and Caribbean culture. The Vice-Chancellor gave a formal announcement of the ceremony's purpose by the Vice-Chancellor.

Dr. Miller expressed his commitment to promoting the well-being of the university and its members through an official declaration. Then there was a symbolic robing, during which Dr. Miller was attired and capped with a Tudor bonnet—a symbol of knowledge and wisdom. The Vice-Chancellor presented the ceremonial mace, marking the official investiture of the new Chancellor. UWI Alumna, Dania Hamilton, an experienced educator, leader, and entrepreneur gave the official Greeting from the alumni population and noted that graduates welcome the Chancellor “as a leader of an exceptional caliber to the helm our of a beloved institution. Dr. Miller, your journey embodies resilience, vision, and unwavering commitment – qualities that make you not just an exemplary UWI Pelican but also the ideal leader for this pivotal moment in our university’s evolution.” She further stated, “As One UWI, One Alumni Family, we pledge our support to you and to the mission of positioning this great institution as a global model for academic excellence, sustainability, and innovation.”
