The UWI's 75th Anniversary

The UWI's 75th Anniversary provides an opportunity for the University to celebrate its contribution to the Caribbean region through the professional impact of its graduates on their societies and the teaching, research and administrative effect of faculty and staff, and to build on its growing reputation for excellence, as evidenced by its superb performance in regional and global rankings.

Alumni, students, staff, public and private sector partners and Friends of The UWI, both in the region and globally, are invited to come together to celebrate, mobilise ideas, talent, projects and funding in support of The UWI and to participate in the suite of events and activities planned on each campus in celebration of the University's 75th anniversary, as the University celebrates its history, achievements and aspirations for the future.

As we look forward to the UWI's 75th Anniversary celebrations we share with you a History of the UWI, a snapshot of where and how the UWI legacy began.

The UWI 75th Anniversary Interfaith Convocation Ceremony

A feeling of Nostalgia

Thank you ever so much for giving me the opportunity to participate in the Interfaith Convocation Service. Nostalgic feelings swept over as I viewed the University Chapel. I played that organ at some of the Sunday morning services, and sang in the choir on Sunday nights. I was pleased to see that the "University Singers" still exists. I sang with that group also. It was amusing to think that the current group is two generations younger than me. I am a proud graduate of the class of 1970, and I think that I represented the UWI very well when i was accepted for residency in Boston. When I was doing my fellowship in South Carolina, the Director of Ob/Gyn in Boston called me because he wanted a vacant residency slot filled by someone from my medical school. That gave me goosebumps.

I am now retired. I will always be grateful for the education I received during my six years at the UWI.
